The Importance of Professional eCommerce Web Design

Although you may have the world’s most fantastic products, unfortunately in the world of ecommerce, that won’t be enough to generate sales. When it comes to selling online, you need to ensure that you provide your customers with an excellent user experience. If your website is difficult to navigate or simply looks unprofessional, it is unlikely that you will achieve high conversion rates. Here we will explain why it is important to invest in a professional ecommerce web design.

Ecommerce Design

Whilst it is much cheaper to do a DIY job on your ecommerce web design, it could affect your ability to attract customers and make online sales. This is due to the fact that an unprofessional web design will reflect badly on your company. If you have not put effort into your ecommerce website or been willing to invest in a professional design, it will make customers question the values of your business and the quality of your products. A poor web design is enough to put customers off from ever making a purchase from you.   By investing in a professional ecommerce web design, you can ensure that customers return to you time and time again. A professional web design should incorporate your company branding and be attractive to your target audience. Today it is fashionable for ecommerce web designs to be quite clean and minimalistic, concentrating on the things that are most important to customers such as clear product images and well-presented content.

User experience

A good web design alone is not enough to make your ecommerce website a success. In order to stand the best chance at increasing your conversion rates, you will need to ensure that your ecommerce website is delivering an excellent user experience. If customers find it difficult to navigate to the products they need or find that elements of your website do not work properly, they are likely to click off your website and go to one of your competitors’ sites instead.   A professional ecommerce web designer will help you build a website that delivers a great user experience to customers across all platforms. Navigation will be simple, your checkout process will be effortless and all of the elements of your website will serve their intended purpose. By offering a fantastic user experience to visitors, you are much more likely to see an increase in your websites conversion rates.

Choosing a professional ecommerce web designer

Today a quick search on Google will tell you that there are thousands, if not millions of web designers around the world to choose from. To make sure you work with someone that is reliable and delivers a high standard of design work, you will need to check their references and ask to see their portfolio. It is important to make sure that the web designer has the necessary skills and experience to complete your ecommerce web design project. It will also help if they have worked with companies relevant to your industry. Make sure that they can deliver your ecommerce web design in a timescale that suits you and can provide you with the personalised service you require.

Conclusion

Your ecommerce website is extremely important to the success of your business so it is not something that should be compromised on! Whilst attempting a web design yourself or choosing a standard template will keep costs low, it will affect your ability to succeed in the long run. It is much better to invest in a high quality, bespoke ecommerce design that will reflect the quality of your business and its products, whilst also generating sales.

Nick has been involved in website design since the very early days. He has experienced the shift in focus like few others in the industry and is one of the few who been able to move with the times. With a number of very high profile accounts under his belt including early websites for Vogue Magazine, Debenhams, Top Shop and Harrods, Nick quickly learned what worked for large organisations and their customers – a skill which has been the mainstay of his design-led work ever since.

  1. Make sure your text and background has the proper contrast. There’s evidence showing that white text on a black background is easiest for most people to read, but other colors are fine so long as they’re readable. Also keep in mind that people with visual impairments may not be able to read your site if the contrast is poor.
