Despite the fact that the recession is over, its far reaching effects can be seen in the increasing number of small businesses closing down. More and more SMEs are finding it difficult to keep their businesses open. According to research by the Local Data Company in North of England two in five businesses are reported to be closing down. Across the UK one in seven high street stores are running out of business. The vacancy rates at town centres had increased to 14.5% in 2010. In 2009 the rates were at 12%. Experts feel that some parts of the country may never recover from the recession. The Ipsos MORI’s 2010 Captains of Industry report indicates that consumer demand is the biggest worry that SMEs face. Entrepreneurs are also anxious about the disposable income that consumers would have this year.
